In August 2023, we hosted ‘The Fabulous, Fierce, and FreakyWorld of Female Reproduction’, which focussed on female animal reproduction and combating false assumptions about female agency in reproduction.
The exhibit consisted of eleven 3D-printed or sculpted vaginas of various animal species.
Contrary to popular belief, vaginas are remarkably diverse in both form and function. This exhibit showcased that diversity and showed participants that female animals often have the final say over procreation even when it might appear that males are in control of mating.
Dr Tiana Pirtle, Dr David Moreno, Dr Andy Flies, Deidre Merry, Bridgette White, and Alex Paton, of the University of Tasmania, were there to highlight some of the vaginas in the exhibit through stories, poems and demonstrations.
